Teaching is not just another activity in the church; it is a divine calling. James 3:1 warns us not to rush into becoming teachers, because teachers are judged with stricter standards. As a teaching minister, this should remind you that the ministry you carry is sacred. It is more than having eloquence or the ability to explain scriptures. God has placed a weight of responsibility upon you because you are shaping lives with eternal implications. This calling should never be trivialized, taken casually, or reduced to a platform for self-expression.
When God calls you to teach, He is entrusting you with His Word, His people, and His Kingdom’s agenda. This means your preparation cannot be shallow. Every time you open your mouth to teach, heaven expects you to align your words with His truth. It is not enough to be knowledgeable; you must also be spiritually prepared. Teaching flows not only from what you know but also from who you are in God. A minister who neglects the call will end up feeding people shadows instead of substance.
This calling also means accountability. God will ask you about the lives entrusted to your care. Did you teach them faithfully? Did you present His Word without compromise? Did you live in such a way that your life matched your message? These questions should keep you humble and dependent on God daily. The call to teach is not about titles or positions; it is about servanthood and stewardship of divine truth.
So, if you are called to teach, embrace it with reverence and dedication. Let your heart burn with the desire to please God above all else. Teaching may not always bring applause, but it will always bring accountability before God. Take your calling seriously, and you will become a faithful vessel in His hands.
Self-Assessment:
Do I recognize teaching as a divine calling or treat it as a personal skill?
How seriously do I prepare spiritually before I teach?
Am I aware of the accountability that comes with handling God’s Word?
